Layers & Layout

Manage element layering and positioning

Understanding layers helps you control how elements overlap and interact. The Layers panel gives you visual control over your deck's layout.

Understanding Layers

Every element in your pitch deck exists on a layer. Layers determine:

  • Which elements appear in front of others
  • How overlapping elements are displayed
  • Click priority when elements overlap

Higher layers appear in front of lower layers.

Layers Panel

Access the Layers panel from the left sidebar:

  1. Click the "Layers" tab in the sidebar
  2. See all elements on the current page listed
  3. Elements are shown from top (front) to bottom (back)

Layer List Features

  • Click a layer - Selects that element on the canvas
  • Hover a layer - Highlights the element on the canvas
  • Drag layers - Reorder by dragging up or down
  • Layer names - Shows element type or content preview

Changing Layer Order

Via Context Menu

  1. Select an element on the canvas
  2. Right-click to open the context menu
  3. Choose a layer option:
    • Bring Forward - Move up one layer
    • Bring to Front - Move to the top layer
    • Send Backward - Move down one layer
    • Send to Back - Move to the bottom layer

Via Layers Panel

  1. Open the Layers panel
  2. Find the element in the list
  3. Drag it up (to front) or down (to back)
  4. Release to set the new position

Element Positioning

Moving Elements

  • Click and drag any element to move it
  • Elements use absolute positioning
  • Position is relative to the page bounds

Alignment Guides

When dragging elements, alignment guides appear:

  • Edge guides - Align to page edges
  • Center guides - Align to page center
  • Element guides - Align to other elements
  • Snap behavior - Elements snap to guides for precise alignment

Resizing

  • Select an element to show resize handles
  • 8 handles: corners and edge midpoints
  • Drag handles to resize in that direction
  • Corner handles resize proportionally

Rotation

  • A rotation handle appears above selected elements
  • Drag the rotation handle to rotate
  • Rotation affects the element's orientation

Multi-Page Navigation

Your pitch deck may have multiple pages:

  • Scroll vertically to see different pages
  • Each page has its own layer stack
  • The Layers panel updates to show the active page
  • Copy/paste works across pages via the clipboard

Protected Elements

Some elements are protected and cannot be moved or deleted:

  • Maps - Embedded map elements are protected
  • Protected elements show a lock indicator
  • You can still view them in the Layers panel

Why protect maps? Maps contain complex data that's synchronized separately. Modifying them directly could break the coordinate and POI data.

Best Practices

  • Use layers intentionally to create depth
  • Keep important content on top layers
  • Use background elements on bottom layers
  • Check the Layers panel when elements seem hidden
  • Use alignment guides for professional-looking layouts
